About Nick Porcaro

Specifically, I love working in pencil, pen and charcoal because I feel it is a direct extension of my hand. Even my water colors are as much pencil and ink as they are color.

In addition to drawing, painting and writing poetry, I also enjoy working with charitable organizations. My most recent project included the design, construction management and partial funding of a new elementary school built in a Turkish village stricken by a major earthquake. Since its completion I have established a scholarship fund for worthy students (see www.BursVer.org). All proceeds from my Boston exhibition in 2009 and my Istanbul exhibition in 2014 supported this project.

As a retired architect now living in Washington DC, I continue to be drawn to nature and the landscape with a particular appreciation for the strength and the majesty of trees of all ages, types and in all settings. Most of my subjects and compositions are from real life in situ drawing, my imagination or they are a hybrid of images from other works of art, reorganized spatially to convey a mood. People and buildings play a very minor role in the compositions. It’s all about being around and within nature.
